Tokyo: Nagma Mohamad Mallick, India’s Ambassador-designate to Japan, met with Unō Yoshimasa, the Special Advisor to the Japanese Prime Minister, on Friday. They discussed ways to enhance collaboration between India and Japan.

The Indian Embassy in Japan shared on social media that this meeting focused on exploring opportunities for cooperation between the two nations. Earlier in the week, Mallick also had discussions with Tsugimasa Muraoka, the Governor of Yamaguchi, and Shungaku Yanai, the Speaker of the Yamaguchi Prefectural Assembly, where they examined how to boost bilateral relations, particularly concentrating on Yamaguchi Prefecture.

Present at the meeting were members of the Prefectural Assembly, including Kenji Niki, Kenjiro Nishimoto, and Shinji Sakamoto, who actively work in the India-ASEAN regional Friendship and Economic Exchange Promotion League. They also discussed strengthening India-Japan ties, focusing on Yamaguchi.

Additionally, the Indian Embassy, in collaboration with Yamaguchi Prefecture, organized a business seminar to highlight India’s strong economic growth and the potential for partnerships with Yamaguchi. Mallick addressed the participants, outlining opportunities for cooperation between the two regions. Governor Muraoka acknowledged the efforts of the Embassy in making this event happen.

During the seminar, Yanai shared details about the new India-Japan friendship association formed within the Yamaguchi Prefectural Assembly. Debjani Chakrabarti, a Minister from the Indian Embassy, presented insights on India’s business environment and investment opportunities. Haranobu Hara from JETRO also discussed trends for Japanese companies operating in India.

In another event, the Indian community and the Embassy celebrated Deepavali being added to UNESCO’s representative list of intangible cultural heritage. The celebration featured cultural performances and a speech by Deputy Chief of Mission, R. Madhu Sudan.
