Rourkela:
Odisha’s beautiful handloom traditions were celebrated at the National Handloom Day event organized by the Indian Consulate in Brisbane, Australia. The celebration took place on Friday, where members of the Odia community proudly showcased a variety of the state’s famous handwoven sarees.
This occasion was all about honoring India’s rich textile heritage and the skilled artisans who contribute to it. Women from the Odia diaspora displayed many traditional styles, including Sambalpuri, Khandua, Dolabedi, Berhampuri, Bichitrapuri, Kotpad, Pattachitra, Ashwini, and Utkal Laxmi sarees. Each piece represented Odisha’s long-standing weaving history.
The event not only paid homage to the countless weavers and artisans who have kept these traditions alive for generations, but it also offered a wonderful chance for the Indian community in Queensland to share the beauty and craftsmanship of Indian textiles with Australians.
