Bangladesh’s Marufa Akter Set to Return Against New Zealand in Women’s World Cup
Bangladesh pacer Marufa Akter is ready to take the field in their upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup match against New Zealand on Friday, October 10, at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Marufa faced a minor injury during the last game against England, where she had an impressive start with the new ball.
Despite the narrow four-wicket loss to England, Marufa stood out by claiming two important wickets for just 28 runs in her five overs. She took down England’s Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont, putting the batting side under pressure early on.
Unfortunately, during her fifth over, the 20-year-old felt a strain in her leg and had to stop bowling. Her early departure disrupted Bangladesh’s bowling strategy, and they found it challenging to maintain pressure, allowing England to chase down their target.
Before the next match, Bangladesh’s vice captain Nahida Akter provided an update on Marufa’s fitness, stating that she’s fit and ready to play.
“In our last match, we played well overall. Our bowlers did a good job, and we aim to keep that momentum going. Our batters performed decently, although a few could have done better to help us score more runs. We’re focused on the upcoming game and preparing well. As for Marufa, she’s fit and ready for the game,” Akter shared in the pre-match press conference.
Previously, Marufa also impressed in Bangladesh’s first game against Pakistan, where she took three wickets for only 12 runs in her four overs, leading her team to a comfortable seven-wicket win. She will be keen to keep up her strong performances as Bangladesh aims for their second victory of the tournament, facing a New Zealand side looking for improvement.
