Young Indian Chess Star Shines at Norway Chess Tournament
R. Praggnanandhaa has made history by becoming the first Indian to win the prestigious Norway Chess title during an impressive comeback in Oslo. The 20-year-old Grandmaster clinched the championship with a final-round victory against Germany’s Vincent Keymer, marking a remarkable turnaround in the tournament.
This victory is particularly noteworthy due to the tough competition. The elite event included top players like World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen, reigning champion D. Gukesh, Alireza Firouzja, and Wesley So, making it one of the most competitive chess tournaments around.
So kept his hopes alive by beating Firouzja in a tense Armageddon match, but Praggnanandhaa’s final win put an end to those title dreams. In a better finish, Carlsen ended the tournament on a high note, defeating Gukesh and moving ahead of Keymer to claim fourth place.

One of the standout moments of his campaign was his remarkable success against Carlsen. Praggnanandhaa defeated the Norwegian champion twice in classical games, becoming just the second player ever, after the legendary Viswanathan Anand, to achieve this in a single tournament.
