The Rise of Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities Await
Artificial intelligence (AI) is developing rapidly, with both large tech firms and startups eager to dive into this exciting field. For many new entrepreneurs, it might seem like the best opportunities are already snapped up. However, Greg Brockman, co-founder and president of OpenAI, offers a more optimistic perspective.
In a recent chat on the Latent Space podcast, Brockman reassured those interested in AI that there are still plenty of chances to make an impact. He recognized that the competition is tough, but he emphasized that innovators can still flourish by merging the latest technology with practical solutions to everyday problems.
“It may feel like every idea is already thought of, but the market is huge,” he explained. “It’s essential for people to find ways to make the most of the incredible AI tools available.”
Brockman believes the greatest benefits of large language models (LLMs) won’t come from simple, surface-level applications but rather from integrating AI into critical areas like healthcare. Here, the challenge lies in navigating intricate regulations, various stakeholders, and established systems. He encouraged those who can successfully introduce AI to such vital industries to be at the forefront of significant changes. “There’s so much untapped potential out there,” he noted. “So, dive into the GPT river.”
However, he also cautioned against what he calls “wrappers”—basic applications that only dress up existing AI models without adding real value. Instead of chasing quick wins, he advised entrepreneurs to invest in gaining deep knowledge and building meaningful connections within their fields. “Understanding your area and forming relationships is key,” he said. “To really stand out in the AI industry, you need to tackle problems that are truly important to your customers.”
Looking ahead, Brockman shared a bold vision for a future shaped by AI, one where both digital and physical products can be produced almost instantly and at minimal cost. “I hope we’ll reach a point of incredible abundance,” he remarked, suggesting that, in this future, we may even expand beyond Earth, fulfilling many dreams portrayed in science fiction.
He stressed that access to computing power will be crucial in this future. “Compute resources are going to be in high demand,” Brockman pointed out. “Those with the best access to these resources will lead the way in groundbreaking projects.”
He anticipates that, as AI transforms our digital and physical worlds, traditional concepts of wealth might evolve, with computing power becoming a new form of currency. As a result, the meaning of money could shift dramatically as AI continues to reshape our realities.
