GT Bharathi to Establish World Trade Center in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu
CHENGALPATTU DISTRICT, TAMIL NADU, INDIA [August 13, 2026] — GT Bharathi (GTB®) has announced that it received a license from the World Trade Centers Association® (WTCA®) to set up a World Trade Center® (WTC®) in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu. This achievement places GTB in an exclusive group alongside over 300 WTCs worldwide.
The WTC brand is known for its excellence in international commerce. By bringing this brand to Chengalpattu, GTB aims to create a hub for businesses, connecting them to a global network of trade opportunities. This is similar to how the WTC has established significant commercial sites in major cities across India.
Scott Wang, the Vice President of WTCA for the Asia Pacific region, expressed excitement about the new WTC Chengalpattu. He stated that it would provide local businesses with broader global opportunities and wished GTB success in their efforts.
WTCA is non-political and focuses on connecting businesses, especially in times of changing trade policies. Their goal is to facilitate international trade, cooperation, and understanding, helping members grow while integrating local markets into the global economy.
Bharat Kanti Doshi, Chairman of GTB, emphasized the significance of having the WTC name, which aligns GTB with the world’s leading commercial establishments. He noted that this is a pivotal moment for Chengalpattu and that their goal is to attract international business to Tamil Nadu and enhance the region’s economic footprint.
GTB envisions the WTC project as a key part of a mixed-use development on about 150 acres, with an estimated value of ₹7,000 crore. Once completed, this project is expected to generate over 1,00,000 jobs, becoming a vital source of employment and economic activity in the area.
Managing Director Arun Bharathi Arunachalam shared that the WTC will be the anchor of a self-sustaining community that merges living, working, and learning. The masterplan will unfold over approximately ten years, incorporating commercial spaces, residential areas, educational institutions, and hospitality services. The intention is to transform Chengalpattu into a vibrant locale for careers and industries.
Chengalpattu is emerging as a central growth area in Tamil Nadu, benefiting from strong links to the IT sector and various industrial zones. GTB sees this district as an ideal location for the WTC.
Badal Saboo, business lead for WTCA in India and Asia Pacific, noted that GTB’s entry strengthens their presence in one of India’s rapidly developing trade routes. He looks forward to collaborating with GTB to promote regional enterprises on a global scale.
Invitation to Landowners
As GTB progresses with its masterplan, the company is seeking landowners with suitable parcels along the OMR corridor from Thiruporur and ECR within Chengalpattu to discuss potential participation in this landmark initiative.
