Discussion on Sanju Samson’s Future: CSK and RR Trade Unlikely
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has raised doubts about the rumored trade involving Sanju Samson moving from Rajasthan Royals (RR) to CSK. As the Indian Premier League (IPL) gears up for its next season, reports suggest that Samson may be looking to leave RR.
CSK’s Interest in Samson
The Super Kings have shown interest in bringing Samson on board. However, Ashwin believes that the trade deal faces significant challenges. Although Samson was retained by RR for a hefty sum of ₹18 crore before the mega auction, he missed various matches during the season due to injuries.
Ashwin explained his concerns about the potential trade on his YouTube channel, stating that RR might struggle to find valuable players in return if they trade Samson. He pointed out that if RR sought a player like Ravi Bishnoi from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by offering Samson, LSG would have to take on the financial responsibilities of retaining him, complicating the deal even further. Moreover, CSK has a history of not engaging in trades, especially for key players like Ravindra Jadeja or Shivam Dube. As a result, Ashwin feels the chances of Samson joining CSK are slim.
Samson’s IPL Journey
Sanju Samson began his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) back in 2012 but didn’t get any game time. The following year, he was acquired by Rajasthan Royals and made his IPL debut. After playing for RR until 2015, he moved to Delhi Daredevils (now known as Delhi Capitals) for the 2016 and 2017 seasons but returned to RR in 2018. He even captained the team to their second final in 2022, although they ended up losing.
Looking Ahead
Samson has been a crucial player for RR over the years, and the decision about his future—whether he remains with RR for the 2026 season or shifts to another team—remains to be seen. It will be interesting to watch how this situation unfolds in the coming months.
