Jaishankar Advocates for Two-State Solution at UN General Assembly
During the UN General Assembly on September 27, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar emphasized the importance of a two-state solution for achieving lasting peace in the Middle East. He urged all involved parties to exercise restraint amid ongoing tensions and violence in the region, particularly in light of Israel’s military actions in Gaza.
Jaishankar highlighted India’s commitment to humanitarian aid, noting the nation’s efforts to support the Palestinian people. He also condemned attacks on commercial ships and seafarers in the Gulf, stressing that the safety of maritime operations and those on board must not be compromised, especially following incidents that resulted in casualties among Indian and international seafarers.
Concerns Over Russia-Ukraine Conflict and AI Development
Addressing the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Jaishankar expressed concern about the prolonged nature of the war. He reaffirmed India’s support for peace initiatives and indicated the country’s readiness to contribute to improving food and energy security amidst the crisis.
Furthermore, Jaishankar discussed artificial intelligence, recognizing it as a tool that could enhance opportunities, boost economic growth, and help tackle major challenges. He stressed that each country should have the freedom to develop its own AI strategies aligned with their national objectives.
The foreign minister also pointed out the shift towards a multipolar world, suggesting that the global order established post-1945 is changing. He stressed the growing need for a reformed approach to international cooperation that reflects these new realities.
