Recent Incident in the Arabian Sea
On September 15, a noteworthy incident occurred in the North Arabian Sea involving naval forces from India and Pakistan. A Pakistan Navy ship, the PNS Hunain, collided with the Indian Navy warship, INS Kolkata. According to Indian officials, the PNS Hunain attempted to overtake the Indian vessel at high speed in a dangerous manner, which led to the crash.
In response to the incident, India called in Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires to express its concerns and highlight what it regards as a breach of an agreement established in 1991. This agreement stipulates that naval vessels from both countries must maintain a safe distance of at least three nautical miles from each other.
Pakistan, however, has denied these allegations, asserting that they are inaccurate. Fortunately, INS Kolkata did not suffer significant damage and remains operational at sea. In contrast, the PNS Hunain sustained some damage and was forced to return to port.
This incident has sparked concern regarding maritime safety and communication between the two neighboring countries.
