The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 auction is set to take place in Kochi on October 28, as confirmed by sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCCI is currently working on finalizing the venues for the next season of the league.
During a virtual meeting, the WPL Governing Council discussed potential venues for the tournament. The options include familiar cricket grounds as well as some newer facilities. Last year’s edition was held in Mumbai and Vadodara, with the final match taking place at the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium.
### Possible Venues: Vadodara and Varanasi
According to reports, Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium is among the shortlisted venues for WPL 2027. The BCCI is also looking into whether Vadodara or Varanasi will be selected as the second venue. Notably, Vadodara’s Kotambi Stadium hosted the final in 2026, where the Royal Challengers Bengaluru triumphed over the Delhi Capitals by six wickets to claim the championship.
The new stadium in Varanasi is also under consideration if it is completed by January 2027. The BCCI plans to visit the venue to ensure it meets the league’s requirements. To test the facility’s readiness for WPL matches, the board is considering organizing domestic or practice games there.
Additionally, Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium was mentioned as a potential site, though hosting matches there would require several permissions from local authorities. This venue had previously held WPL matches in 2024, during a season that took place across Bengaluru and New Delhi.
The upcoming 2027 season marks the fifth edition of the WPL. Since its inception in 2023, the league has featured five teams and will have its matches scheduled in January-February starting from 2026. Before the full schedule is released, the BCCI needs to finalize the venue plans.
In terms of performance, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians are the standout teams, both having won the title twice. The Delhi Capitals have made it to the finals in all four previous seasons but are still in search of their first championship. The two other teams competing in the league are the UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants.
