Rishikanta Singh, a Commonwealth silver medalist and the only male weightlifter in the Asian Games team, will not be competing in the upcoming event due to a knee injury.

The 60kg lifter from Manipur suffered the injury just a week before his successful run at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in July, where he proudly earned a silver medal.

“We were optimistic about his recovery before the Asian Games, but unfortunately, that wasn’t possible. After an assessment, he has been advised to undergo rehabilitation for a month,” shared a representative from the Indian Weightlifting Federation.

As it stands, the Indian weightlifting team for the Asian Games now includes four female athletes: Mirabai Chanu, who won silver at the Tokyo Olympics in the 49kg category, Gyaneshwari Yadav (53kg), Nirupama Devi (61kg), and Harjinder Kaur (69kg).
