India Set for Exciting International Friendlies Ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026
PANAJI: The Indian football team is gearing up for a remarkable series of matches as they prepare to face off against several teams that participated in the FIFA World Cup 2026. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has recently announced the signing of a letter of intent to host a friendly match against Panama, currently ranked 44th in the world. This game is set to take place during the match window of late September to early October.
The match against Panama is planned for the weekend of September 26-27, although the exact venue has yet to be confirmed. Following this friendly, India is expected to face Brazil in Kolkata on October 3. Additionally, there will be two away matches against New Zealand in November, marking a busy three-month period for the national team with a potential total of four matches against World Cup opponents.
An AIFF official mentioned that there is a strong possibility of arranging yet another international friendly on October 6. Discussions are currently underway with three countries that participated in the last World Cup to finalize this third match. It’s worth noting that Panama, the upcoming opponent for India, was eliminated in the group stage of the World Cup.
This series of friendlies presents a unique opportunity for the Indian football team to challenge themselves against strong international competition as they gear up for future tournaments.
