Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines as a Bowler in Duleep Trophy
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, known for his powerful batting, showcased his versatility by taking up bowling during the Duleep Trophy. The 15-year-old cricketer, who has already gained attention with his explosive performances in the IPL and T20 Internationals, surprised many by grabbing two wickets in just four balls while playing for the East Zone against the North East Zone.
Sooryavanshi demonstrated his left-arm orthodox spin bowling effectively, making an instant impact in the match.
A New Chapter in His Cricket Journey
As the Duleep Trophy marks the beginning of a new cricket season, Sooryavanshi is adjusting from the fast-paced T20 format to the longer game. Recently appointed as East Zone’s vice-captain, his selection for this role raised eyebrows due to his young age and limited experience in first-class cricket.
Although he didn’t score many runs with the bat at the start of the game, making only eight runs off six balls, he quickly made up for it with his impressive bowling performance.
Sooryavanshi’s first wicket came when he bowled Kishan Lyngdoh, who mis-timed a shot while trying to play aggressively. The fielder made a clean catch at point. Just three balls later, Sooryavanshi struck again, this time trapping Imliwati Lemtur, whose edge went straight to the wicketkeeper, Ishan Kishan.
These two wickets not only showcased Sooryavanshi’s bowling ability, which had previously been overshadowed by his batting, but they also reminded everyone that he is a well-rounded cricketer.
While his batting skills have drawn most of the attention, this bowling spell hinted at a different dimension of his cricketing talent. Sooryavanshi has been known for his aggressive batting style, but his performance in this match suggested that he can also be a valuable asset with the ball when needed.
As fans continue to watch his career, it will be exciting to see if bowling becomes a regular part of his game, especially after such an entertaining display in the Duleep Trophy.
