As the summer season comes to a close, exciting travel opportunities are on the rise, and many Americans are eagerly planning their next adventures. A recent report from Expedia highlights that international travel is becoming increasingly popular, with flight searches increasing by 15% compared to last year. Destinations like Tulum, Mallorca, and Tokyo are currently trending among travelers. Notably, Indianapolis has emerged as the fastest-growing U.S. destination for fall travel, seeing a remarkable 120% increase in interest, partly due to the highly anticipated “Eras Tour” coming to the city this November.

For those looking to save while traveling, fall is an ideal time. Historically, airfare drops by about 10% compared to summer prices. This season is considered “shoulder season,” the perfect time to travel when weather is pleasant, crowds are thinner, and hotel prices are more affordable. The following are key takeaways from Expedia’s Fall Travel Outlook:

– Popular fall destinations for U.S. travelers include Las Vegas, Cancun, and Paris, with Indianapolis (+120%), Cape May (+60%), Tulum (+70%), and Mallorca (+70%) showing significant growth in interest.
– For the best deals, domestic travelers should consider traveling during the week of September, when average ticket prices are nearly $100 lower than peak summer rates. International travelers will see an even greater discount, with average prices about $260 lower during the week of October 20.
– Destinations such as Honolulu, Seattle, London, and Dublin are seeing a noticeable drop in average ticket prices for fall, providing travelers with excellent savings opportunities.
– Japan and New York City are standout destinations this season. Travelers seeking stunning autumn scenery can visit hidden gems like Yamaguchi, Japan, located just hours from Tokyo, and the serene Hudson Valley in New York, a peaceful retreat from the busy city.

Melanie Fish, head of public relations for Expedia Group Brands, stated, “In spring, traveler interest was driven by the solar eclipse, and now, this fall, it’s the much-anticipated ‘Eras Tour.’ No matter where you want to go, fall is a wonderful time to travel, and there’s still time to plan a trip. The week after Labor Day offers the best deals for domestic flights, while October 20 is optimal for international travel and for experiencing the beautiful fall foliage.”

With many opportunities for exploration and adventure, travelers are encouraged to take advantage of this season’s travel deals.
