Ram Gopal Varma’s “Police Company” Set to Begin Filming as Two-Part Film
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is embracing a fresh project titled “Police Company.” For this exciting film, Harshvardhan Rane will take on the role of the well-known Mumbai Police encounter specialist Daya Nayak. The movie will also feature notable actors such as Fardeen Khan, Saurabh Shukla, Paresh Rawal, and Makarand Deshpande in significant roles.
Production for “Police Company” kicked off today, and it has been revealed that the film will be created as a two-part series. Both parts will be filmed back-to-back, with plans to release them a few months apart in 2027. This strategy is reminiscent of recent films like “Dhurandhar” and earlier works by Anurag Kashyap.
Initially, T-Series considered making “Police Company” a web series due to its vast storyline. However, Varma believed it deserved the grandeur of a two-part movie, feeling that the scale and narrative warranted a theatrical format. The success of violent crime films like “Dhurandhar: The Revenge” has likely further encouraged this decision.
A source close to the project shared, “RGV has crafted the script in such a way that audiences will be astounded. Both parts are set to deliver an action-packed and thrilling experience for those who view it in theaters. He is fully committed to making this his grand return to filmmaking.”
Set during the late 1990s and early 2000s, “Police Company” explores the gripping tales of the Mumbai Police Detection Unit. This special squad was formed to take down powerful crime syndicates operating in the city. Known as the “Encounter Squad,” they were responsible for neutralizing numerous high-profile criminals and significantly weakening notorious gangs like those led by Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Rajan. The film will highlight several renowned officers, including Daya Nayak, Pradeep Sharma, and Vijay Salaskar, who became legendary figures in the fight against mafia influence when the legal system struggled to keep up.
While Harshvardhan Rane will embody Daya Nayak, the remaining cast members will be portrayed by a mix of newer talents. The film is set to be a significant casting endeavor for T-Series, incorporating both police and underworld characters. The filmmakers anticipate wrapping up production by the end of this year, aiming for a mid-2027 release for the first part, with the sequel following a few months later.
