Rani Mukerji has reached a significant milestone in her impressive career. The renowned actress has been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters by La Trobe University in Australia, becoming the second Indian film personality to receive this honor after Shah Rukh Khan.
This recognition celebrates Mukerji’s nearly thirty years in Indian cinema and her dedicated humanitarian efforts. Recognized for her choice of roles that tackle social issues, promote women’s empowerment, and spark important conversations, the actress has consistently used her influence to tell stories that resonate beyond mere entertainment.
Expressing her gratitude for the honor, Rani Mukerji shared, “Receiving this honorary doctorate from La Trobe University is one of the most humbling moments of my life. For someone who believes that films can change hearts before they change minds, this recognition is incredibly meaningful.”
Throughout her career, Mukerji has taken on a variety of roles, always opting for projects driven by strong themes and compelling characters. She reflects on her film choices, saying, “I have always chosen films that first made an impact on my heart. I look for stories that inspire and empower.”
The actress also acknowledged the broader responsibility that artists have, especially as representatives of Indian cinema and culture on a global stage. “Every artist has a responsibility beyond performance. We become ambassadors of our culture,” she remarked.
Mukerji continued to express how she hopes her films positively influence audiences’ perceptions of India and its women. “If my films have helped even one person understand India and its women a little better… then I feel I have fulfilled a responsibility far greater than simply being an actor,” she said.
The honorary doctorate places Rani Mukerji in an exclusive group at La Trobe University, where Shah Rukh Khan received a similar honor in 2019. After his recognition, a PhD scholarship was established in his name.
With this latest achievement, Rani Mukerji’s contributions to Indian cinema are being celebrated for their artistic quality as well as the cultural and social significance of the stories she has chosen throughout her career.
