Trump Defends Strong Ties with Netanyahu Amid Gaza Plan Dispute
WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump emphasized on Monday that his relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains “very good,” despite Netanyahu’s rejection of a proposed Gaza plan led by the U.S.
When asked by a reporter about his ties with Netanyahu during an Oval Office event, Trump responded, “The relationship is very good.”
The tensions arose after Netanyahu explicitly voiced his opposition to the Gaza plan over the weekend. This plan suggested a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces alongside the disarmament of Hamas.
As the elections on October 27 approach, Netanyahu, who has been Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, finds himself in a tight race, with some polls suggesting he may be trailing. This is the first election since the tragic attack by Hamas in 2023 that led to the ongoing Gaza conflict.
The Gaza plan seems unpopular among Netanyahu’s right-wing supporters, with some far-right cabinet members urging him to abandon it altogether.
