India’s Young Athletes Set to Shine at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene
India’s remarkable journey at the Commonwealth Games has wrapped up, but now the focus turns to the next wave of athletes as the World Athletics U20 Championships kick off this Wednesday in Eugene, USA.
A talented group of 36 Indian athletes is ready to compete in various track and field events over the next five days. Many participants are coming off strong performances at the Asian U20 Championships held earlier this year. This event serves as a perfect platform for these young athletes to challenge themselves against top junior talent from around the globe as they aim for a transition to senior-level competitions in the future.
High jumper Pooja Singh is one standout athlete to watch. The 20-year-old is entering the championships with incredible momentum after breaking a 14-year-old national record by clearing 1.93m at the Asian U20 Championships in Hong Kong. This achievement not only earned her a gold medal but also qualified her for the Commonwealth Games, highlighting her potential as one of India’s shining stars in athletics.
Another promising athlete is long jumper Shahnavaz Khan, who has made a name for himself over the past year. After consistently performing well in domestic competitions, he looks forward to showing his skills on an international stage. The championships present a vital chance for Khan to gain experience and compete against some of the best junior athletes in the world.
India will also participate in several other events, including the men’s javelin, 800m, race walk, relay events, discus throw, triple jump, and hurdles.
