Bangladesh Hopes for Peaceful Resolution to Protests in India
DHAKA, July 23, 2026 – Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shama Obaed Islam, expressed hope today that India, as the world’s largest democracy, will address the concerns of its citizens swiftly and peacefully.
Speaking at a media briefing, she emphasized that as a neighboring democracy, Bangladesh expects India to consider the voices of its people and work quickly to resolve the ongoing issues. “Bangladesh wants peace and stability in the region,” she stated, referring to recent student-led protests in India.
When asked about reports regarding a conversation between President Mohammed Shahabuddin and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Shama mentioned that the foreign ministry has not received any specific information on that topic. She assured that the government would look into the matter if further details come to light.
