Biohacker Bryan Johnson Reveals Autoimmune Condition Affecting His Health
Bryan Johnson, a 48-year-old entrepreneur from Los Angeles known for his pioneering work in biohacking and health, has disclosed that he is dealing with an autoimmune condition referred to as autoimmune gastritis. According to Johnson, this illness leads to his stomach essentially “eating itself,” as his immune system attacks the cells that produce stomach acid, resulting in difficulties absorbing essential nutrients.
Previously, Johnson has set ambitious goals for himself, expressing a desire to live until 2140, aiming to reach the age of 160. His recent diagnosis has shed light on some of the health struggles he faces. Johnson estimated that autoimmune gastritis affects about 2% to 5% of the population.
In a candid post on social media, he explained, “I’m going to try to solve it and will share everything I find out.” Johnson’s quest for longevity hasn’t always been straightforward. He reflected on his early eating habits, which included sugary cereals and fast food, and how his busy life as a young father led him to neglect his health, gaining weight and battling depression over the years.
He mentioned that during this period, his body developed an autoimmune response that impacted both his thyroid and stomach lining. Autoimmune gastritis can often go unnoticed, making it tough to diagnose. This condition might lead to vitamin deficiencies and, in worse cases, increase the risk of stomach cancer.
Johnson also pointed out that despite actively trying to improve his iron levels through dietary changes and supplements, he faced persistent challenges. After undergoing several medical examinations, including a colonoscopy and biopsies, doctors found early signs of the condition.
In his statement, Johnson emphasized the importance of innovation in treating health problems. He aims to leverage advancements in technology, including AI and personalized medicine, to find a potential cure for autoimmune gastritis. His approach also includes a strict health regimen that targets aging and extends life expectancy.
While Johnson acknowledges that there is no current cure for his condition, he remains hopeful. He encourages everyone to take care of their health while also promoting a message of compassion for all living beings and the environment. “Life is the most precious gift there is,” he stated.
Johnson continues to document his journey and remains committed to finding solutions for his health challenges while inspiring others along the way.
