Young Cricket Sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines Bright in Final

Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is making waves in the cricket world, emerging as a star from the T20 era. Recently, he wowed fans during the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season and even earned a spot in the senior India T20 team. His impressive batting often draws attention for its explosive nature and quick runs.

In a thrilling performance, Sooryavanshi scored a magnificent 94 runs off just 29 balls, leading his team to victory against Sri Lanka A in the one-day tri-series final. After the match, he took the opportunity to set the record straight about his cricket experience.

When a presenter asked him how he was adjusting to the 50-over format after playing so much T20 cricket, Sooryavanshi confidently replied, “I’ve learned a lot in this series, but I’ve played a lot of 50-over cricket. Not sure people know about it.”

He might only be a teenager who needs permission to miss school for his cricket commitments, but he’s right. While he has gained fame from his 34 explosive T20 matches in the IPL, his skills are rooted in 50-over cricket. So far, he has played 38 matches, including 25 Youth ODIs. In fact, he holds the record as the highest run-scorer in Indian under-19 history, with 1,412 runs and four centuries to his name.

This solid foundation was key in the final, especially as he faced some criticism over his recent performances. “I hadn’t thought of anything,” he shared about his mindset before the match. “I just wanted to stick to my plan for the first ten overs and build from there. There was no pressure. I spoke with my coaches, and I got back on track.”

What happened next was remarkable. He reached his fifty in just 11 balls—a new world record for List A cricket—finishing just six runs shy of a century with an astonishing strike rate of 324.14. His performance mirrored his stunning 175 in the Under-19 World Cup final last year, further solidifying his reputation in big matches.

With this spectacular showing, Sooryavanshi is proving that he is more than ready for a senior ODI position. By reminding everyone of his vast experience in one-day cricket, he’s not just correcting assumptions—he’s sending a clear message to national selectors that he’s ready for the next step in his career.
