Spider-Man: Brand New Day Faces Censorship Ahead of Release
With just three days to go before the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fans are buzzing with excitement, as reflected in ticket sales. A week prior to the launch, the film completed its censorship review process, leading to some notable changes.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) granted the movie a U/A 13+ certificate but required several edits. Specifically, the board requested the removal of ‘obscene’ language from the audio and subtitles at three different points: one in the first half and two after the intermission. Additionally, an eight-second kissing scene had to be cut from the film.
After incorporating these adjustments, the film’s certification was finalized on July 23. The total runtime of Spider-Man: Brand New Day is 144.52 minutes, which translates to about 2 hours and 24 minutes.
This new installment sees the return of beloved actors Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon, continuing the story from Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). As reported, the film has already sold roughly 260,000 tickets across major cinema chains like PVR Inox and Cinepolis, and with three days left before the opening, it’s on track to reach 400,000 in advance sales. This remarkable demand could potentially lead to an opening day collection of around ₹50 crores, a milestone for a Hollywood film in India.
Moreover, cinemas have been advised to adjust ticket pricing, with some theaters matching prices from the recent blockbuster Dhurandhar The Revenge. Sources indicate that while certain cinemas are pricing tickets similarly, most are staying below those figures due to the unique buzz surrounding the Dhurandhar sequel.
As anticipation builds, fans eagerly await the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, ready for another thrilling adventure with their favorite web-slinger.
