Serena Williams Eyeing a Comeback at Queen’s Club
Tennis icon Serena Williams is reportedly gearing up for an exciting return to the court at Queen’s Club, nearly four years after her last professional match at the 2022 US Open. The 23-time Grand Slam champion is looking to team up in doubles with rising Canadian star Victoria Mboko, who has been making waves on the WTA Tour.
Victoria expressed her excitement about potentially partnering with Serena, sharing that they’ve kept in contact over the years. At 44, Serena has recently rejoined the anti-doping testing pool and has been training hard, considering a return on grass courts, with Wimbledon also on her radar.
“I’m really happy. Serena and I have stayed in touch, and it’s been great because I really look up to her. Just knowing she knows who I am is so exciting for me,” Victoria said in a press conference at the French Open.
She added, “I want to let her have her moment. If she decides to come back, it should be on her own terms. I don’t have much to add beyond that; it’s all about her timing.”
Serena Had Previously Downplayed Return Rumors
Last December, Serena re-entered the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) anti-doping testing pool, leading many to speculate about her return to professional tennis. The ITIA confirmed this move, which requires athletes to follow strict anti-doping regulations.
Although Williams has not played since her last match in 2022, she had previously dismissed the rumors, stating that joining the testing pool didn’t mean she would be returning to the sport anytime soon. “OMG, I’m NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy,” she shared on social media. However, recent reports linking her to a possible appearance at Queen’s Club have reignited discussions about her comeback.
Mboko Advances to the Third Round
Meanwhile, Victoria Mboko is making headlines with her impressive performance at the French Open. She reached the third round after a tough comeback victory against Czech player Katerina Siniakova.
The 19-year-old Canadian showcased her talent by bouncing back from a set down to secure the win, reinforcing her reputation as one of the most promising new talents in women’s tennis. After also performing well in the Strasbourg final prior to the tournament, she has now made it to the French Open’s third round for the second consecutive year, displaying remarkable confidence on clay courts.
