Karman Kaur Thandi Falls Short in Return to Grand Slam Tennis
Karman Kaur Thandi faced disappointment on Tuesday as her eagerly awaited return to Grand Slam tennis ended in defeat. This loss marked the end of India’s hopes for representation in the singles category at the upcoming French Open 2026.
The French Open, which is the second major tennis tournament of the year, is set to kick off on Sunday, May 24, in Paris.
Historically, the French Open holds significant importance for Indian tennis. In 1997, Mahesh Bhupathi made history by winning the mixed doubles title with Japan’s Rika Hiraki, becoming the first Indian to claim a Grand Slam victory.
Indian Players at French Open 2026
Unfortunately, no Indian players are in the singles draws this year. However, Yuki Bhambri and N. Sriram Balaji will represent the country in men’s doubles. Bhambri has partnered with New Zealand’s Michael Venus, while Balaji teams up with Brazil’s Marcelo Demoliner. The doubles draw is still pending.
In addition to them, Maaya Rajaeswaran Revathi and Arnav Paparkar will compete in the Boys’ and Girls’ singles events.
