Lincoln Trail College Students Shine at National Competition in Texas
Recently, four students from Lincoln Trail College’s Process Technology program embarked on an exciting journey to Texas, where they participated in the NAPTA Troubleshooting Skills Competition. This event took place from April 29 to May 1, and their team was one of only 12 teams from across the nation to qualify.
The competition challenged the students to diagnose and address complex problems in process technology. However, the experience offered them much more than just a test of their skills.
During the trip, the students engaged in mock interviews, explored advanced training facilities, and networked with industry professionals. Natalie Ramsey highlighted the impact of seeing new equipment and learning how it could enhance their understanding of their field. “If we had access to the resources they have, I think we could really excel in grasping the processes,” she explained. “The mock interviews were particularly useful, introducing us to new technologies and giving us hands-on experience with equipment we don’t have here.”
One standout visit was to San Jacinto College, where they observed how various programs train students using state-of-the-art equipment. The students also enjoyed a dinner with alumni from Lincoln Trail College who are now working in the industry, providing them with valuable insights about career paths and expectations.
Process Technology Instructor Tina Lindley noted that such opportunities bridge classroom theories with real-world applications. “Experiencing different environments and new equipment broadens their understanding of what’s possible in this field,” she explained. “This exposure is incredibly valuable.”
Beyond technical skills, the trip emphasized the significance of teamwork and communication. Hannah Potts remarked, “Strong communication is crucial in this career.”
Lindley concluded that the experience plays a vital role in their development as future professionals. “This helps the students not only grow academically but also prepares them for their careers ahead.”
