CBI Takes Over Investigation into Former Aide’s Murder
NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially taken charge of the murder case involving Chandranath Rath, the former personal assistant to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The agency has registered a First Information Report (FIR) and has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the case, as reported by Rajshekhar Jha.
The SIT, which consists of seven members, is headed by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding Rath’s death. On Tuesday, a meeting was held at the CBI headquarters in Delhi to discuss progress and to arrange the remand of suspects who have been arrested.
This action follows a case filed by the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch in Kolkata. The team leading the investigation is under DIG Pankaj Kumar Singh from the Special Crimes Division in New Delhi. It includes various experienced officials like Superintendents of Police Subhash Chandra Kundu and Anil Kumar Yadav, along with additional officers from different branches in cities like Dhanbad, Patna, Ranchi, and Lucknow.
Operational leadership for the SIT will come from the joint director of the Kolkata Zone, who has the authority to call in more personnel from local agencies if necessary. This is to ensure a comprehensive and effective investigation into the matter.
