Era Secures $11M from Abstract Ventures and BoxGroup to Power Smart Gadgets with AI

Era Secures $11 Million Funding to Enhance AI Tools

Era, a tech startup focused on building infrastructure for artificial intelligence, has successfully raised $11 million in funding. This investment round featured a $9 million seed investment led by Abstract Ventures and BoxGroup, with additional support from Collaborative Fund and Mozilla Ventures.

Alongside this, Era received $2 million in pre-seed funding from Topology Ventures and Betaworks. Notable angel investors include Caterina Fake, co-founder of Flickr, Ken Kocienda, who developed the iPhone keyboard, and ShaoBo Z, the former Chief Product Officer at Rabbit.

Founded in New York in 2025 by Liz Dorman, Alex Ollman, and Megan Gole, Era aims to create software that simplifies the development of AI-enabled devices. The platform manages tasks such as voice customization, various input methods, and real-time decision-making, allowing hardware developers to focus on building their products without getting bogged down by complex infrastructure issues.

Era’s platform boasts access to over 130 language models from more than 14 different providers and is adaptable for various devices, including smart glasses, jewelry, and home speakers.

While Era’s competition includes companies like Sandbar and Taya, it faces significant challenges from larger tech giants like Google and Apple. If these corporations develop robust AI systems within their ecosystems, it could make it tougher for smaller firms like Era to compete effectively.

Looking ahead, Era intends to make its platform available to the open-source and maker communities. This follows a successful showcase event in New York where developers experimented with creating innovative devices, including an air quality monitor and a stock tracker.
