CBFC Scrubs ‘Sex’ and ‘F**k’ from Spielberg’s Disclosure Day: Bollywood Buzz

On June 10, it was reported that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) surprised many by approving three films without any cuts: Bharat Bhhagya Vidhhaata, Haunted – Echoes Of The Past, and Backrooms. However, the film Disclosure Day faced some challenges. It received its censor certificate just in time but needed to make a few cuts.

In a specific scene, the word “sex” was muted during a conversation where Daniel Kellner, played by Josh O’Connor, finds out his girlfriend, Jane, portrayed by Eve Hewson, was a nun. When asked if she still follows her religious commitments, Jane says no, mentioning they have already had sex, which is where the adjustment was made.

Another term that was muted was “f*k,” which appeared twice in the movie. Once these edits were completed, Disclosure Day* received a U/A 13+ certificate on June 11. The film’s total running time is 2 hours, 25 minutes, and 36 seconds.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, Disclosure Day brings him back together with screenwriter David Koepp, with whom he has worked on several popular films, including Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. This film also marks the 30th collaboration with acclaimed composer John Williams.

The story stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, and Eve Hewson. It revolves around Daniel Kellner, a journalist and cybersecurity expert from Kansas City, who meets Jane during a chaotic time in the world.

The movie opened to $27.6 million globally and is projected to earn around $94 million over the weekend. In India, it debuted with earnings between ₹1.75 crores and ₹2 crores, which is a decent start given the competitive landscape and its unique genre.
