Jude Bellingham Invests in Cricket with Birmingham Phoenix Stake

Jude Bellingham, the talented star from Real Madrid, has recently made headlines by stepping into the cricket world. He has purchased a 1.2% stake in the Birmingham Phoenix franchise, marking an exciting blend of elite football and cricket.

This investment, worth nearly £1 million, is split between Warwickshire County Cricket Club and Knighthead Capital Management, which are the main backers of the team. Warwickshire holds a 50.4% majority, while Knighthead retains 48.4%. Bellingham’s entrance adds even more star power to The Hundred league, which has been drawing attention from global sports figures and investors alike. Notably, Knighthead previously bought a significant share of the franchise for £40 million.

Bellingham’s interest in cricket isn’t new; he has always been a fan of the sport. The 22-year-old even played junior cricket in his youth and has expressed admiration for players like Ben Stokes.

Adding to the excitement, Tom Brady, the legendary NFL quarterback, is also part of the Knighthead group, further highlighting the international appeal of The Hundred.

Bellingham’s Ties to Birmingham

For Bellingham, this investment represents more than just a financial move; it’s a way to connect with his roots. Growing up in the West Midlands and rising through Birmingham City’s youth ranks, he feels a strong bond with the community.

“I love Birmingham. I’m thankful for everything the city has done for me. Cricket is a sport I enjoy, so when the opportunity came, I didn’t hesitate. I’m excited to be involved,” Bellingham shared.

He also expressed a desire to give back to his hometown. “My upbringing in Birmingham City taught me a lot about football and life. I feel like I owe the city something. Even though I’m busy with football, I want to find ways to help the community, and this feels like a great way to do that.”

Bellingham emphasized the importance of sports in the lives of young people. “It’s crucial to encourage the kids in our city to engage with sports. There are many paths they can take—some will thrive in football, others in cricket. I hope my involvement with Birmingham Phoenix can inspire them.”

His role is expected to extend beyond mere ownership, as Warwickshire plans to involve him in community outreach and development programs in the area.
