Yash Raj Films, one of India’s top production houses, is taking a bold step into a new genre. They’ve enlisted filmmaker Abhay Pannu to direct their very first horror movie. Pannu, who gained recognition for the popular series Rocket Boys, is also working on the script for this exciting project, which is set to begin filming in 2026.
This untitled film marks a significant milestone for Yash Raj Films as it will be the studio’s first venture into horror in their 50-year history. A source revealed, “Yash Raj Films has explored every genre but horror, and starting in 2027, they will make their mark in this territory with Pannu at the helm. YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani played a key role in making this collaboration happen, encouraging Aditya Chopra to explore new creative avenues.”
Following the success of Saiyaara, the studio is keen to collaborate with a fresh generation of storytellers, including Pannu, Mohit Suri, and Sameer Saxena. This approach will help expand YRF’s creative spectrum across various genres and formats.
In light of this new direction, Yash Raj Films is enhancing their creative framework to support a dual model for film development. This involves a mix of projects developed by Aditya Chopra and a parallel line managed by Akshaye Widhani and his team, aimed at nurturing new creative talents and storytelling styles.
The source added, “For the first time, Aditya Chopra has given more creative freedom to Widhani, who is eager to produce more with upcoming filmmakers after the triumph of Saiyaara.”
Fans can expect more updates on this groundbreaking horror film in the near future.
