Harmonic Teams Up with DIRECTV to Enhance Video Services

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Harmonic (NASDAQ: HLIT) has announced a significant upgrade for DIRECTV’s video platform in the United States. The company is using Harmonic’s advanced VOS® Media Software to streamline its media operations from playout to delivery, reducing costs while enhancing the quality of video for various channels.

Jeffrey Seto, vice president of satellite and software engineering at DIRECTV, remarked, “As people increasingly seek high-quality media, we are committed to adopting technologies that deliver unmatched entertainment experiences. Our partnership with Harmonic is crucial for our success.” He explained how Harmonic’s software replaces outdated systems with a single, efficient platform that integrates various functions, simplifying operations and providing a scalable solution.

The VOS Media Software facilitates a full workflow for DIRECTV, operating within its secure data center. This technology efficiently handles tasks like content ingestion, playout, ad insertion, and branding, ensuring broadcast-quality programming is delivered via satellite. The software also supports ad placements for DIRECTV’s popular regular and special event channels, improving revenue potential. The integration with DIRECTV’s existing automation and monitoring systems allows for seamless scheduling and operation of channels.

Gil Rudge, senior vice president at Harmonic, expressed pride in aiding DIRECTV’s innovation efforts to modernize their operations. “With our AI-driven encoding and compression technology, DIRECTV is well-set to provide amazing video quality while keeping bandwidth needs and operational costs low,” he noted.

Harmonic will showcase its VOS Media Software at the 2026 NAB Show from April 19-22 in Las Vegas at booth W2831. For more details about their solutions, you can check their website.
