He emphasized the need for dialogue and diplomacy to ease tensions, while also highlighting the importance of free navigation and smooth trade in this crucial waterway.
Currently, about 15 Indian-flagged vessels are reported to be stranded in the area. Indian authorities are working together to ensure their safe return home. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways is collaborating with the MEA to address this issue as quickly as possible. Given India’s significant reliance on energy imports from the Gulf, the situation may create additional challenges, especially since imports of Iranian crude oil have significantly declined since 2019 due to sanctions.
