KKR Explains Cameron Green’s Bowling Absence: Cricket Australia Reacts to Ajinkya Rahane’s Shocking Claim

Cricket Australia Responds to KKR’s Rahane on Cameron Green’s Absence from Bowling

Cricket Australia recently addressed comments made by Kolkata Knight Riders’ captain Ajinkya Rahane regarding all-rounder Cameron Green, who did not bowl during the team’s match against the Mumbai Indians. Rahane, visibly frustrated after the match, hinted that only the Australian board knew why Green didn’t bowl.

In a match held on March 29, KKR suffered a heavy defeat against the Mumbai Indians, who chased down a target of 221 runs with six wickets in hand. Openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton set the tone early by scoring 148 runs for the first wicket, leaving KKR struggling.

After the match, when questioned about Green’s lack of bowling, Rahane suggested that Cricket Australia had restrictions in place regarding the player’s participation.

However, Cricket Australia quickly clarified the situation. A spokesperson informed that KKR was notified beforehand that Green wouldn’t bowl in the initial 10 to 12 days of the IPL due to a lower back injury. The spokesperson said, “Cameron is managing a lower back injury which requires him to rest from bowling for a short while. He is gradually increasing his bowling activity in India, aiming to return in about 10-12 days.”

The absence of Green as a bowling option poses a challenge for KKR, especially as the team also deals with injuries to Harshit Rana and Matheesha Pathirana. They have also recently had to let go of another key player, Mustafizur Rahman.

If Cricket Australia’s timeline holds, Green will likely miss bowling duties for the first few matches of the IPL. Until around April 9, he is expected to play only as a specialist batter in upcoming games against SunRisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants.
