Ukraine Seeks Support from Middle Eastern Allies Amid Ongoing Conflict

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is leveraging Ukraine’s military advancements to gain support from Middle Eastern countries. During his recent visit to Abu Dhabi, he discussed a deal with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, proposing to share Ukraine’s cutting-edge anti-drone technology in exchange for ballistic missile support and financial aid.

In an interview following the meeting, Zelenskyy highlighted how Ukraine’s innovative battlefield technologies, particularly its drone systems, are shaping international defense relationships. He noted, “We have drone interceptors and electronic warfare setups that work together in ways no one else has.”

Ukraine is ready to collaborate with several Gulf nations, including the UAE, Qatar, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, all of which face rising threats from Iranian drone capabilities. However, Zelenskyy stressed the importance of mutual support, emphasizing Ukraine’s pressing need for air defense weapons like the PAC-3 Patriot missiles.

“We’re prepared to assist Middle Eastern countries with our expertise, while hoping they can provide us with anti-ballistic missiles,” he said. Ukraine has already formed decade-long defense agreements with Saudi Arabia and Qatar, with another one expected soon with the UAE.

Zelenskyy expressed concerns over the potential impact of a growing U.S. military focus on the Middle East amid rising tensions with Iran, as it may affect the flow of support to Ukraine. He warned that Russia is aiding Iran by sharing drone technology and military tactics developed during the ongoing war.

On the battlefield, Zelenskyy reaffirmed Ukraine’s stance to hold on to territories in the contested Donbas region, explaining that giving up ground would lower troop morale and displace civilians. He also urged the U.S. to maintain attention on Ukraine while dealing with issues in the Middle East.

The ongoing conflict has seen significant escalation, with Ukrainian officials reporting more than 270 Russian drone strikes overnight, resulting in casualties. Zelenskyy hopes to draw attention to the situation and encourages international support to pressure the Iranian regime while not forgetting Ukraine’s plight.

In the face of adversity, Ukraine remains steadfast in seeking partnerships to bolster its defenses against ongoing aggressions.
