Hindi streaming platform ZEE5 has just released the trailer for its upcoming film Jab Khuli Kitaab. This movie promises to give viewers a touching, funny, and genuine look into mature love. Directed and written by Saurabh Shukla, it stars the talented Pankaj Kapur and Dimple Kapadia, exploring the emotional twists of a marriage that has lasted for fifty years, which is thrown off course by a long-hidden truth.
The trailer introduces us to Gopal (played by Pankaj Kapur) and Anusuya (played by Dimple Kapadia), a couple whose lives are deeply intertwined through years of shared moments and understanding. Their tranquil life takes a sharp turn when Anusuya reveals a secret she has kept for years, challenging their relationship at its core. Gopal is faced with a whirlwind of emotions, and ultimately decides to seek a divorce as he navigates this new reality.
In their journey, they consult a young lawyer, portrayed by Aparshakti Khurana, who helps them begin the difficult conversations about their feelings, unhealed wounds, and affection. As they unravel their past, the trailer showcases a moving story about love that is tested by time, filled with warmth, honesty, and the challenge of confronting old wounds. It blends humor with reflective moments, creating an enjoyable viewing experience.
Pankaj Kapur shared his thoughts on his character, stating, “What makes Jab Khuli Kitaab unique is Saurabh Shukla’s vision. It’s rare to shine a light on older love, and this film does it with such honesty and warmth. Love doesn’t fade as we age; it evolves and becomes more complex. Portraying a man rediscovering love in such a profound way was a fulfilling challenge.”
Dimple Kapadia expressed her excitement about playing Anusuya, saying, “This project ticked all the boxes for me — a beautiful narrative, a chance to work with Pankaj Kapur, and direction by Saurabh ji. Anusuya’s character is written with depth and honesty, aiming to be sincere in her marriage. It takes great emotional strength to be honest after so many years together, and I’m grateful to be part of this intimate story.”
Aparshakti Khurana added, “My character acts as a mirror for Gopal and Anusuya to confront their past. The generational gap creates both humorous and insightful moments. The film gracefully addresses forgiveness and connection, making it a unique narrative.”
Jab Khuli Kitaab artfully combines humor and heartache, offering a genuine representation of love later in life and the bravery it takes to start anew. With its rich characters, sharp writing, and performances from some of India’s top actors, this film is set to connect with audiences of all ages.
Mark your calendars: Jab Khuli Kitaab will premiere on ZEE5 on March 6, 2026.
