Zelenskyy and Putin May Connect Following Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Summit

Potential Call Between Zelenskyy and Putin After Trump Meeting

Discussions between former President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could lead to the first direct conversation between Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin in over five years. A source close to the situation mentioned that this meeting could mark a significant step toward peace.

While the Mar-a-Lago meeting aimed to advance peace efforts, the source indicated that finalizing a direct call between Zelenskyy and Putin would be a notable diplomatic achievement for Trump. “If Putin had participated in the call on Sunday, it would have represented a major success in the peace talks,” the source commented.

Trump mentioned he had already spoken with Putin prior to the meeting with Zelenskyy, describing the conversation as “good and very productive.” He expressed optimism about reaching an agreement, stating, “I believe we can move very quickly on this.”

President Zelenskyy arrived at the meeting in Florida with some nervousness, as he typically prepares intensely for discussions with Trump. This was their third in-person meeting since Trump returned to office.

Central to their discussions was a U.S.-backed 20-point peace initiative that would require cooperation from both Kyiv and Moscow for any breakthrough.

During these talks, it was revealed that Zelenskyy is ready to present new proposals, which may include compromises from Ukraine, all while ensuring necessary security guarantees.

This comes after a long period of stalled communication between Zelenskyy and Putin, with their last conversation taking place in July 2020. Following that interaction, efforts to establish further dialogue were repeatedly unsuccessful.

In recent statements, Zelenskyy has emphasized that achieving peace is Ukraine’s top priority, insisting on the need for strong support from international allies, especially the U.S. He confirmed his eagerness to end the conflict and is ready to take necessary actions to stop the ongoing war.

As the situation develops, many eyes will be on the potential for renewed discussions between Zelenskyy and Putin, as both leaders navigate this complex landscape.
