BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has reached out to state cricket associations, urging them to take action in promoting cricket for differently-abled players. In a letter dated October 26, Saikia emphasized the importance of providing these athletes with better opportunities, support, and encouragement to grow the sport across the nation.
The letter comes after discussions during the Board’s 95th Annual General Meeting held in Mumbai on September 18, where members recognized the pressing need to support differently-abled cricketers.
Saikia called on member associations to implement meaningful initiatives that would foster the participation of differently-abled players. He highlighted that their cooperation would enhance the spirit of inclusivity and promote the development of cricket for these talented individuals throughout India.
Ravi Kant Chauhan, Secretary of the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI), expressed gratitude for the BCCI’s initiative. He thanked the board for their commitment to recognizing and creating more opportunities for differently-abled cricketers.
“We are truly thankful to the BCCI for standing by us in our pursuit of making cricket more inclusive. This is a big step towards giving our players the recognition they deserve and helping them showcase their talents,” said Chauhan.
He added that this support would strengthen their efforts to develop emerging talent and provide equal opportunities in sports, allowing cricketers to proudly represent the nation. Chauhan expressed hope that this collaboration would lead to a brighter future for differently-abled cricket in India.
The BCCI’s call to action is a step towards expanding participation and support for differently-abled cricketers across the country.
