Urvil Patel Credits Chennai Super Kings for Boosting Confidence

Urvil Patel, the talented wicketkeeper-batter from Gujarat, says his time with the Chennai Super Kings has greatly enhanced his confidence on the field. The 27-year-old, who is celebrated for his explosive batting, recently made headlines by scoring a stunning 119 runs off just 37 balls while leading Gujarat against Services in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Hyderabad. This remarkable innings included 12 fours and 10 sixes, helping his team chase down 183 runs in just 12.3 overs.

This century was Urvil’s third in T20 cricket and came just a year after he achieved a remarkable 28-ball hundred, which was the joint-fastest century by an Indian in T20 history against Tripura.

Reflecting on his journey, Urvil talked about how his experience with the Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 IPL reshaped his understanding of success. “Being part of CSK and learning from Dhoni sir changed how I view success and failure,” he explained in an interview. “It’s not just about scoring runs. Success also means giving your best effort. At CSK, I learned to believe in myself—now I have more trust in my shots than ever.”

In the 2023 IPL auction, Patel caught the attention of the Gujarat Titans, who picked him up for 20 lakh. Although he didn’t play that season, his potential was clearly recognized. However, his real breakthrough came in 2025 when CSK signed him as a replacement for the injured Vansh Bedi for 30 lakh. He made a memorable debut against the Kolkata Knight Riders, scoring 31 runs off just 11 balls, which showcased his big-hitting talent.

During the 2025 season, Urvil played three matches, accumulating 68 runs with a top score of 37 and maintaining an impressive strike rate of over 212, reflecting his aggressive style of play.

Urvil believes that his ability to hit big shots has been honed through hard work, and he feels increasingly confident in maintaining this aggressive approach. “Playing aggressive cricket has its challenges, especially when it comes to consistency. But I’m committed to working hard, and I believe I can play even better in the future,” he stated.

The Super Kings showed their confidence in Urvil by keeping him on the team despite acquiring Sanju Samson from the Rajasthan Royals. He has been in excellent form during the domestic season, scoring 346 runs in five matches, including a century in the initial phase of the Ranji Trophy.

As Urvil continues to shine in the cricketing world, fans and teammates alike are excited to see what he will achieve next.
