India Focuses on Indian Ocean Security at Colombo Security Conclave
New Delhi: India has reiterated its dedication to ensuring stability in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The national security adviser, Ajit Doval, led the 7th meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave in New Delhi, which gathered security leaders from member countries, including the Maldives, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
During the meeting, Doval emphasized that security in the IOR is a shared duty among the countries involved. He remarked, “The ocean is crucial for our economies and heritage. As nations with interconnected maritime landscapes, we must work together to safeguard the Indian Ocean.”
The primary focus of the summit was to strengthen collaboration on five key areas: Maritime Safety and Security, Countering Terrorism and Radicalization, Combating Trafficking and Organized Crime, Cyber Security, and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief. The countries present also agreed to enhance joint training and build their capacities.
A significant highlight of this conclave was the welcoming of Seychelles as a full member, expanding the group’s geographic reach. Additionally, Malaysia participated as a guest nation for the first time, further enhancing regional collaboration.
