Exciting Wildlife Encounter at Valmiki Tiger Reserve
Bettiah: Tourists enjoyed an unforgettable experience during their morning safari at the Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in West Champaran on Sunday when they spotted a rhinoceros up close. This thrilling sighting brought joy to both visitors and wildlife lovers.
According to forest officials, the rhino is one of a few that have migrated from Nepal’s Chitwan National Park and discovered a suitable habitat in the reserve. The presence of these majestic animals is viewed as a positive indicator of ecological balance and a healthy environment in VTR.
Divisional Forest Officer Vikas Kumar stated that two rhinos, known as R-5 and R-8, have been frequently seen in the area. “The safe environment at VTR has allowed the wildlife population to grow steadily,” he noted. “Our ongoing efforts in monitoring, protecting against poaching, and conservation are paying off,” he added.
Visitors who witnessed the rhino sighting described it as a memorable moment. “We were on safari when the rhino appeared surprisingly close to us. We quickly took photos and videos. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” shared one thrilled guest.
Forest authorities emphasized the importance of following safety measures during safaris. They reminded visitors to keep a safe distance from wild animals and to follow guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety.
The VTR, Bihar’s only tiger reserve, continues to gain recognition for its rich biodiversity. In addition to rhinos, the reserve is home to tigers, leopards, bears, and various deer species. Officials believe that the increasing variety of wildlife is enhancing the area’s appeal as a rising eco-tourism destination.
