Excitement Builds for “They Call Him OG” Release in India

With just hours to go before the eagerly awaited release of They Call Him OG, featuring Power Star Pawan Kalyan, excitement is reaching fever pitch. Paid previews are set for tonight across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, and almost all shows are sold out. Moviegoers in these regions eagerly snatched up tickets, priced between ₹800 and ₹1000, showcasing their dedication to their favorite star. However, fans in North India were left disappointed, unable to join their Southern counterparts for the film’s debut, but the popular multiplex chain MovieMax has swiftly stepped in to help.

In a surprising turn of events, advance bookings for They Call Him OG began yesterday at MovieMax Amanora in Pune, a move that caught many off guard since Mumbai and Delhi are usually the focus. Today, bookings kicked off at MovieMax locations in Kanjurmarg and Sion, Mumbai, with high demand leading to an immediate sell-out of initial shows, prompting the addition of extra screenings. MovieMax expanded its offerings to Thane in response to this overwhelming enthusiasm.

Currently, MovieMax Amanora has four showtimes scheduled, a trend mirrored at MovieMax Shalimar in Lucknow. Other venues showing the film include MovieMax Kalyani Nagar in Pune, as well as locations in Ghaziabad, Noida, and Nagpur. The rapid sell-out of tickets across the North suggests that more cinemas may soon open additional bookings.

As of 6:00 PM on September 24, MovieMax alone has sold around 3,750 tickets, totaling ₹6.55 lakhs—an impressive figure considering this was achieved from just 10 theatres. Notably, approximately 2,000 tickets were snapped up within hours of the advance booking opening, and further sales continue to surge.

Despite the buzz, challenges lie ahead for They Call Him OG. While many anticipate it to be Pawan Kalyan’s biggest opener yet, the film’s ‘A’ rating might deter some viewers. Yet, previous adult films like Coolie and Animal have proven that this may not severely affect box office performance. Additionally, the film’s upcoming OTT release in four weeks has led to some national chains avoiding it, which could impact ticket sales.

Moreover, there are concerns about delays in delivering the film’s content to theaters in the USA and Canada, which may harm its overseas earnings. The film’s team has even reached out to American fans for assistance in getting the film to cinemas promptly.

Despite these hurdles, positive audience feedback could overshadow any issues. The anticipation for the paid previews tonight will provide critical insight into its potential performance over the weekend and beyond. All eyes are now on audience reactions as they experience They Call Him OG.
