Indian Techie Denied US Tourist Visa Despite Impressive Salary
In the wake of stricter regulations on H-1B visas by Donald Trump’s administration, an Indian tech worker has shared her experience of being denied a tourist visa to the United States. The 24-year-old, who earns an annual salary of ₹16 lakh, had her heart set on visiting New York City during the festive season.
Having worked for an American fintech company for two years, she believed her financial stability would help her case. She detailed her experience in a recent Reddit post, noting that she attended her visa interview in Delhi, hopeful of securing approval.
During the interview, she explained her reasons for traveling and highlighted her salary. Despite her efforts—including offering to present her salary slips—the visa officer ultimately denied her application for a B2 tourist visa.
Feeling disappointed but motivated, she reflected that her lack of travel history and her young age might have contributed to the decision. “I will try again and aim to build a good international travel record,” she mentioned in her post.
This incident follows a similar case in which another Indian, who works as a customs officer and has savings of ₹50 lakh, also faced a quick denial after a brief interview with a visa officer.
Reactions from Online Community
Netizens on Reddit shared their thoughts on these experiences, with many speculating about the reasons behind the visa rejections. Some pointed out that a lack of travel history might make visa officers hesitant to approve applications for destinations known for their high costs, like New York City.
One user noted, “It’s unfortunate! NYC is very expensive, especially during the holidays. Hotels alone can cost $300-$400 per night.” Another advised the techie to gain more travel experience before reapplying, suggesting she obtain visas to other countries like those in Europe or Japan.
Others echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that her age and lack of ties to India could also raise red flags for visa officers. They encouraged her not to feel bad about her answers, stressing that these factors are common for young travelers.
Overall, this situation highlights the ongoing challenges many face when seeking visas, despite their professional success and financial stability.
