MGI Tech Celebrated for Mangrove Conservation Efforts
Auckland, New Zealand — July 14, 2025 — MGI Tech Co., Ltd. is thrilled to announce it has won the prestigious Green World Champion award for Environmental Improvement in the Conservation and Wildlife Projects category at the Green World Awards 2025. This accolade highlights the company’s innovative use of genomics technology to help conserve Thai mangrove species.
In collaboration with the Thai National Omics Center, MGI is working to enhance genetic diversity in mangroves, which is vital for improving traditional conservation methods. Mangroves play a crucial role in coastal ecosystems, offering protection to shorelines and supporting local fishing industries in Thailand. Unfortunately, these important environments are increasingly threatened by various environmental challenges, making conservation efforts even more urgent.
Understanding the genetic diversity of mangroves is key to effective conservation strategies. Genetic data helps scientists understand how these species adapt to rising sea levels, salinity changes, and habitat loss. MGI’s advanced DNBSEQ™ technology is instrumental in this research, allowing Thai scientists to explore the genetic makeup of mangroves with unmatched clarity. So far, MGI’s technology has aided in mapping the genetic diversity of 15 mangrove species in Thailand and helped create a reference genome database that is crucial for conservation planning.
The Green World Awards, established in 1994, are among the most respected environmental awards worldwide. Organized by The Green Organisation, a non-political, non-profit group, these awards recognize outstanding environmental practices across various sectors. This year, MGI stands out among over 500 participants, underscoring the significance of its contributions to environmental conservation.
