Amanda Anisimova expressed her disbelief after facing a heavy defeat in the Wimbledon 2025 women’s final. On Saturday, July 12, Iga Swiatek triumphed with a stunning 6-0, 6-0 victory, finishing the match in just 57 minutes on Centre Court.
This match was significant as it marked only the second time in Grand Slam history that a final ended with such a score, the first being Steffi Graf’s victory over Natasha Zvereva in the 1988 French Open.
Anisimova struggled to find her footing throughout the match, as Swiatek captured her first Grand Slam title on grass. The American admitted the defeat was hard to swallow, noting that the outcome was not what she had anticipated.
“It was tough to take in, especially in the moment and right after. This isn’t how I imagined my first Grand Slam final would go. I was a bit shocked,” Anisimova shared during the post-match press conference. “But I’ve told myself that I will come back stronger from this.”
Anisimova acknowledged that losing in such a manner at a Grand Slam wasn’t easy but saw it as a chance to learn and grow. “I can look at this in a positive light and use it as motivation for the future. There’s a lot I need to work on to improve,” she added.
Throughout the tournament, Anisimova had impressive moments, including her semi-final win against World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka. This victory made her the youngest American woman to reach a Wimbledon singles final since Serena Williams in 2004.
Despite the final loss to Swiatek, Anisimova still has much to celebrate. She is poised to make her debut in the WTA top 10 when the new rankings come out. A win could have propelled her as high as No.5.
