Afghanistan Ready to Challenge India’s Rising Star Sooryavanshi in T20I Series

Afghanistan will have their eyes set on young talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as they prepare to take on India in the first T20 International of a three-match series this Sunday. The 15-year-old opener has already made quite an impact during his time in the IPL, prompting Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran to acknowledge the need to prepare for him.

To get a better understanding of Sooryavanshi’s strengths, the Afghan team has reached out to players who faced him in the IPL and studied video footage of his performances. Zadran emphasized that while they recognize Sooryavanshi’s skill, their main focus will be on executing their own game plan rather than getting distracted by the excitement surrounding the young cricketer.

“He is a fantastic player. His IPL performances have been impressive, and he has shown his abilities across multiple formats. We’ve talked about him, and we’ve learned from those who’ve played against him,” Zadran shared during a pre-match press conference.

Sooryavanshi comes into this series after a successful run in the Duleep Trophy, where he scored 192 runs over five innings, including a notable 92 in the semifinal match against Central Zone. This competition allowed him to display his skills in red-ball cricket, but it’s the T20 format that has truly put him on the radar as one of the most exciting young cricketers in India. His aggressive batting style and quick scoring capabilities have garnered significant attention.

On the other hand, Afghanistan will be relying on their experience in Indian conditions as they begin the series against Shreyas Iyer’s team. Zadran feels confident that their past experiences will benefit them. “We know the conditions well. Our aim is to execute our strategy based on the situation of the game,” he stated.

This series marks an important phase for Zadran as he takes on his first full series as T20I captain, having stepped into the role earlier this year after serving as Rashid Khan’s deputy. He mentioned, “It’s a significant responsibility for me. I’m working to embrace this role, take charge, and make the right choices under pressure.”

Rather than focusing solely on winning, Zadran emphasizes the importance of sticking to their process and giving their best effort in the series. “We aim to give 100 percent and concentrate on the process. Hopefully, we will have a successful series,” he concluded.
