Trump’s Bold Claim: Ex-NSA Responds to President’s Take on India-Pakistan Ceasefire

Bolton Responds to Trump’s Ceasefire Claims

Former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton has addressed President Donald Trump’s assertion that he played a key role in facilitating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Bolton dismissed Trump’s claims as typical behavior for the former president, saying it was simply “Trump being Trump.”

Bolton commented on Trump’s remarks suggesting that the ceasefire was brokered through his efforts, clarifying that this was “nothing personal to India.” He noted, “This is Donald Trump, who takes credit for everything,” when speaking with a news agency.

The former NSA acknowledged that Trump likely spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other officials. “I’m sure other countries were also reaching out to see what they could do. It’s typical of Trump that he would jump in before anyone else could take credit,” he explained.

Bolton added that while Trump’s tendency to intervene may be irritating to some, it’s not meant as a slight against India. “It’s just Trump being Trump,” he reiterated.

Ceasefire Between India and Pakistan

On May 10, India and Pakistan announced a ceasefire following several days of fierce clashes between their military forces. The fighting had escalated after India initiated a military operation known as “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, targeting terrorist sites linked to groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This operation followed a deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir that resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians.

In response to India’s actions, Pakistan attempted to retaliate using drones and heavy artillery, leading to growing fears of a war between the two nuclear-armed nations.

Amid this tense situation, a ceasefire was suddenly announced, but not by the governments of India or Pakistan—rather, it came from President Trump.

Trump’s Mediation Claims

On his Truth Social platform, Trump posted about the ceasefire, proudly announcing, “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE.” He congratulated both countries for their decision, attributing the success to “Common Sense and Great Intelligence.”

Trump went on to claim that the U.S. utilized trade negotiations to facilitate the ceasefire and offered to mediate discussions regarding the Jammu and Kashmir issue. However, India firmly rejected Trump’s assertions. The Indian government reiterated that any matters concerning Jammu and Kashmir must be resolved directly between India and Pakistan.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs emphasized, “As you are aware, we have a long-standing national position that any issues pertaining to the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir have to be addressed bilaterally.” They clarified that the topic of trade was not discussed in conversations between Indian and U.S. leaders during the critical period surrounding Operation Sindoor and the subsequent ceasefire.
