In a significant development for religious tourism, Pakistan has issued over 6,500 visas to Sikh pilgrims from India for the Baisakhi celebrations. The annual festival takes place this week, with pilgrims expected to visit several important Sikh sites, including Gurdwara Panja Sahib, Gurdwara Nankana Sahib, and Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib.
Saad Ahmad Warraich, the Charge d’ Affaires, emphasized that the large number of visas reflects Pakistan’s efforts to promote harmony and understanding among different cultures and religions. He also indicated Pakistan’s intention to continue facilitating visits to sacred places.
These pilgrimages are organized under a protocol established in 1974, which allows individuals to travel for spiritual observances on both sides of the border. The commitment to support such visits underscores the importance of religious ties that transcend political differences.
