Neetu Chandra Takes Legal Action Against Yo Yo Honey Singh’s ‘Maniac’ Over Controversial Lyrics

Actress Neetu Chandra has taken a stand against the use of vulgar and explicit songs in Bollywood by filing a petition that is scheduled for a hearing on March 28, 2025. On Friday, the case was brought before a bench led by Acting Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar at the Patna High Court. The court has asked the central government to provide its stance on the matter. The petition raises significant issues regarding the degrading language and abusive remarks often directed at women in Bhojpuri songs.

In her Public Interest Litigation (PIL), Chandra points to the song “Maniac” by Yo Yo Honey Singh, which she claims is laden with vulgar content. She argues that the song objectifies women, depicting them as mere objects rather than individuals. Furthermore, it suggests that the portrayal of women aligns them with sexual symbols.

The lyrics of the song are said to contain double entendre, which enhances their vulgarity and poses a negative influence on children, women, and society as a whole. The use of Bhojpuri terms also contributes to the degrading portrayal of women.

Currently, there are no specific regulations in place to govern the distribution of vulgar songs in the industry. Chandra’s plea aims to highlight that while the Indian Constitution guarantees the right to freedom of speech and expression, there are essential boundaries that should not be crossed. She is calling for legal action against those who breach these boundaries and for stricter enforcement of relevant rules.

The PIL also names others involved in the song, including lyricist Leo Grewal and Bhojpuri singers Ragini Vishwakarma and Arjun Ajanabi.
