Gaza Strip: Air Strikes Result in High Casualties
Gaza’s civil defense team reported that Israeli air strikes have led to the deaths of over 50 people in the main city of Gaza on Monday. Mahmud Bassal, a spokesman for the agency, stated that strikes targeted various locations throughout Gaza City, affecting schools, homes, and gatherings of people.
In the neighborhood of Shujaiya, an air strike hit a home belonging to the Jaradah and Abu Khater families, killing 11 individuals and injuring several others. Reports also indicate that an attack on Al-Maamal Street in Gaza City resulted in the deaths of seven people who were part of a group gathered there. Additionally, five people lost their lives when a strike targeted Salaheddin Al-Ayyubi School located in the Al-Darraj neighborhood.
Throughout the day, more strikes occurred, adding to the rising number of casualties reported by the civil defense agency. Bassal expressed concern over the situation, stating, “There is no room in hospitals to receive the wounded,” highlighting the overwhelming strain on medical facilities.
These recent air strikes come amid claims from both Israeli and Hamas officials that progress is being made in discussions aimed at establishing a ceasefire. Such an agreement would also address the release of numerous hostages currently held in Gaza.
