Manchester City Faces Setback as Ruben Dias sidelined for Four Weeks

Manchester City Faces Challenge as Ruben Dias is Set to Miss Several Weeks

Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, has announced that defender Ruben Dias will be sidelined for three to four weeks due to a muscle injury. This setback adds to the difficulties facing the club as they struggle to keep their Premier League title hopes alive.

City is gearing up for a match against Aston Villa on Saturday, looking to turn their fortunes around during what has been a tough period for Guardiola’s squad. Currently, they sit in fifth place in the league, with only one win in their last 11 matches across all competitions.

Dias picked up the injury in a disappointing 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the derby last Sunday. Guardiola shared details about the injury, stating, "It was a muscular injury. After 75 minutes against Manchester United, he felt something. He is so strong that he stayed on the pitch, but now he’s injured."

There is a silver lining for City as defender Manuel Akanji has returned to training after missing games earlier this month. “That’s good for us,” Guardiola commented on Akanji’s comeback.

The match against United was particularly intense, with City conceding two goals just two minutes after taking the lead in the 88th minute. Guardiola expressed disappointment after the match, accepting full responsibility for the team’s current struggles. “I am not good enough,” he admitted during an emotional post-game press conference.

Guardiola reflected on the effects of the team’s recent performances, saying, "If you fall six times, you have to stand up seven. I’m fine. I’m a normal person with feelings, like all of us. When things are going well, we feel better. When they’re not, we focus more on what we need to do."

Aston Villa, who are just two points and two places below City in the league table, has the chance to move ahead of City with a victory this weekend at Villa Park. Villa has also been performing strongly in their Champions League campaign, currently ranked higher in the standings than City.

“I’m not surprised by Villa’s success,” Guardiola acknowledged. “They have an excellent manager. Their qualification for the Champions League and their results speak for themselves. They’re managing both competitions well, which is never easy.”

The last time City faced Villa at Villa Park was over a year ago, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat, but City recovered later in the season, winning 4-1 in early April. However, Guardiola stated that past results hold little significance for the current matchup. “Why compare what happened?” he asked. “The past is the past. This is a new moment, and we have to deal with it.”
